Bucket List Travel Destinations

I have a few places I’d like to travel to on my bucket list.  I’m never been a huge traveler because of financial limitations, or raising children, or my job.  There are a few US cities I’d like to travel to.  I’ve always wanted to see Montana, also known as Big Sky Country.  The reason it’s called Big Sky Country is because the sky seems to go on forever.  The photos I’ve seen of a Montana night sky show a billion stars.  While I’ve always been an avid sky watcher, it’s only been on a few camping trips to the mountains that I’ve had a good star show.  Most nights there is too much light pollution where I live.  Photos of the snow covered mountains in Montana are just majestic.  I’ve also seen gorgeous photos of crystal clear lakes with the mountains cascading around them.  I’ve never tried it but I’ve always wanted to go fly fishing.  I think I would do that in a Montana river.

Another city I’d like to see is New Orleans.  I don’t want to visit during Mardi Gras, it seems way too crazy at that time for me.  I’d like to go for the food and culture.  I  have heard of an old Chef by the name of  Justin Wilson who cooked Cajun food and was pretty much a comedian on his TV cooking show.  The Cajun cooking just looked delicious and I’d like to try the authentic variety some day.  I’d also like to see the cemeteries there.  In New Orleans, the dead are buried above the ground in vaults because the city is below sea level and often floods.  You don’t want coffins rising up out of the earth, do you?

These are the first two cities that come to mind,  I’ll have to give my bucket list some more thought.

At My Timeshare – Do Not Disturb!

I am super excited to finally be on vacation.  I cannot tell you how much I need this break from the humdrum my ife has been these past several months. I really NEED this break!

A couple of friends and I started planning this trip months ago and it is the only motivation I’ve had to keep smiling and dealing with all the jerks at my job.    We were able to rent a timeshare that is right on the beach.  I get up in the morning and make a cup of coffee and take it out to sit and watch the sunrise.  I can’t get enough of seeing the Ocean at all times of day.  After the sunrise, I go back in for a bit of breakfast and then head to the beach again.

We all go out to eat dinner together and usually catch some live entertainment along the board walk.  I love all the fresh seafood options that are available here. I am ordering all kinds of fish platters and enjoying every bite of oysters and shellfish, too.

We have enjoyed the swimming pool and hot tub at the condo. It is kinda fun to just show up and meet a variety of other vacationers who are there relaxing. Almost everyone has been happy, friendly and chatting.  Sometimes it gets too hot to just sit at the pool, so I come in to the hot tub. I know it sounds weird to leave the hot pool and choose the hot tub instead, but that’s the truth!

And then, you guessed it, I’m back on the beach to watch the sunset.  It’s been beautiful and I’ve got some lovely photos I will enjoy looking at during the winter months.  When we get home we will start planning our next vacation!

Are Magazines Still Bought and Read?

With so many people getting their news online and the continued growth of social media, I wonder if anyone still buys magazines? Do you read magazines anymore?

I subscribe to a couple of magazines that I like, such as Cosmopolitan, Vanity Fair and Southern Living. I like them for different reasons and they do have online versions, but I really like to have my hands on the paper itself, with the high quality photography and pages that I can turn the corner down and find a favorite recipe or article again later. And with some magazines, I even like to read the ads, especially fashion and beauty magazines like Cosmo and Elle.

There are some magazines that I used to love, such as McCall’s, that have gone out of business. I even remember reading, Life, Look and the Saturday Evening Post. I miss them.

That makes me sad. I think doctor’s office waiting rooms need a variety of magazines for people who are stuck waiting and are bored, so having something to read helps ease the anxiety and boredom. I know my dentist has a bunch of magazines in his waiting area. Sometimes I even take one with me to the exam room, so I am not stuck on the dental chair staring at the ceiling, waiting to see the dentist. I hope that people will still buy magazines and support those businesses.

Quit Yer Bitchin About ObamaCare

This constant bitching about Obamacare is really getting on my nerves. The LAW was passed over a year ago. It is the LAW. It dos no good to bitch about it and to threaten defunding it or impeaching anyone because of it.  I wish these asswipes would grow up and just shut up about it.

A lot of people need help getting insurance or getting medial care and prescriptions. It’s not too much to ask everyone to get insurance and to offer to help subsidize it if you can’t afford it. After all, if everyone is healthy we are a much stronger country. And I don’t want to know that I am the cause of anyone suffering needlessly. So, I’m all for the ACA and I’m done listening to the GOP bitching about it.

Oh, Christmas Tree!

No more live Christmas trees for me. I went to buy mine and they wanted $60 for it. I’m just not able to spend that kind of money on something that will make the house smell nice for just a couple of weeks, drop needles on the floor that need to be constantly swept up, and will probably fall over at least once because my damn cat likes to climb up in the tree. I can’t figure out any way to keep the cat out of the tree. It’s like fighting Mother Nature Herself.

So I went to Big Lots and found a gorgeous artificial tree that has lights already on it and the whole thing is only $35! If the cat stays out of it, I’ve got a winner!
